The production of terracotta is part of ‘experiential’ explorations in the context of my most recent artistic practice. I was curious about the potential of using ancient techniques for working the clay. I made these objects (e.g. some of which are illustrated in the photos) by using a semi-artisanal kiln for raku firing, and applying enamel colours prior to a second firing. The charm of these techniques lies in the process of working the object. One starts with the raw clay, a humble and cheap material yet imbued with enormous expressive potential. Through the process of making, the clay acquires a refined kind of beauty, which is far from its original condition.

Mosso dalla curiosità di ricercare le potenzialità e le risorse delle antiche tecniche legate alla lavorazione delle terre, ho prodotto oggetti, quali quelli rappresentati, utilizzando, per quanto attiene la cottura delle argille, un forno semi artigianale da RAKU e colori a smalto a bassa temperatura di seconda cottura.
Il fascino di queste tecniche sta nel processo di lavorazione dell’oggetto realizzato che, partendo dall’ argilla cruda, materia modesta e di nessun valore, ma di infinite possibilità di modellazione e satura di risorse espressive, assume al termine una sua nobiltà e bellezza, lontanissima dalla sua condizione di partenza.
